I've been meaning to post this photograph going on three years. My mom's dad was a photographer, and I scanned several rolls and sheets of his film a fast three years ago. The photographs are amazing. This is my mom's mom, with a fox and a cigarette. awesome.

I assume this photo was made by my mom's dad John Loomis. I'll post more in the coming days, many or most by my grandpa, some probably by others.. and all incredibly fun to look at.

busted a lady trying to steal my gear bag on this shot. i was set up on a busy corner and using my bag to weight my tripod, and she just stuck out her hand and slipped a couple fingers under the straps of the bag as she walked by, but before she tried to pull it away she realized it was fully attached and took her hand away. i started to get mad; she shrugged and laughed and got lost in the crowd..

and, so then, between the posts of the last 3+ weeks and the two portfolios here and here on my portfolio site, that's most all the 4x5 i shot around the world. suppose it's time to break out the beast anew!

losing light with a narrow depth of field, i blew the focus here - it's back at her ears. have a handful where the focus is off like this, and while it's a total bummer, i think it's the nature of the beast trying to shoot large format street portraits wide open. all it takes is a slight movement of the head..
